How the 1717 behaves under ink
The part most contract shops leave out of the quote.
No dye migration, ever
100% cotton means none of the polyester bleed problems performance blanks have. Ink goes down predictably, run after run.
Dye lots vary, by design
Comfort Colors says it plainly: garment-dyeing means slight color variation between pieces and between lots. A reorder six months later can sit a shade off the original. We print lot-specific strike-offs on larger runs and never promise exact PMS matching on garment-dyed goods.
Soft-washed surface drinks ink
The washed, slightly fuzzy face absorbs more ink than a flat carded tee, so we adjust the deposit to keep prints bright without going heavy-handed.
1717 questions from resellers
What is the minimum order on Comfort Colors 1717 shirts?
24 pieces, with no setup fees. You can mix colors and sizes inside that 24 as long as the printed design is the same.
Why do the colors vary slightly from shirt to shirt?
Because each 1717 is dyed as a finished garment rather than cut from pre-dyed fabric. Comfort Colors states that slight variation between pieces and dye lots is normal. That variation is exactly what gives the shirt its vintage, lived-in look, a perfectly uniform 1717 would not be a 1717.
Will my reorder match my first run?
Very close, but garment-dyed goods can sit a shade off between dye lots. On larger runs we print a strike-off from your actual lot before running, and we keep your art and specs on file so everything else matches exactly.
Does the 1717 shrink?
Most of the shrinkage happens at the mill, the shirt is dyed and washed before it ever reaches you. Wash cold and tumble dry low and it holds its relaxed fit well.
Can you match an exact brand color on it?
On garment-dyed blanks we match to the closest stock color rather than promising an exact PMS match, the dye process makes exact matching impossible, and any shop that promises it on a 1717 is setting you up for a dispute. Your print colors, on the other hand, we match precisely.
Do I ship blanks in, or do you source them?
Either one. We are a SanMar PSST decorator, so you can order on your own account and have blanks ship freight-free with no minimum to our dock. If you would rather not carry the blanks, we source and bill them through.
Will the order ship blind under my label?
Yes. Your packing slip, your label, nothing of ours in the box. We can drop ship to your client or straight to their end customer.
